Power factor is not “lost power.”

Real power performs work; reactive power supports electric and magnetic fields; apparent power describes the combined burden on the supply. Improving power factor can reduce current for the same real power—but correction must consider harmonics, switching and operating variation.

  • Who verifies capacitor or filter selection?
WELDING / 5 MIN

Heat input is a clue, not a complete procedure.

Voltage, current, travel speed and process efficiency affect estimated heat delivered per unit length. The same nominal heat input can still produce different thermal cycles because joint geometry, thickness, preheat, interpass temperature and technique matter.

  • Which WPS and essential variables apply?
  • How is travel speed measured?
  • What material and toughness constraints govern?
PUMPS / 5 MIN

A pump does not choose its operating point alone.

The pump curve and system curve meet at the operating point. Static head, friction, valve position, fluid properties and speed move that intersection. Nameplate power alone cannot confirm duty, efficiency, cavitation margin or control stability.

  • Is the flow requirement measured or assumed?
  • What creates total dynamic head?
  • Has NPSH margin been verified?
DECISIONS / 6 MIN

Lowest price and lowest lifecycle cost are different questions.

Acquisition price is one cash event. Availability, energy, spares, maintenance skill, downtime, interfaces, warranty, residual value and escape cost shape the consequence of ownership.
